Project: Using AquaScan to Diagnose an Issue at The Exact Point of The Problem
Installer Details: Gary Thomas – GMT Plumbing & Heating Solutions
Date: May 2025
Project Background
Gary Thomas, a plumbing and heating specialist, was called to a home that had recently had a bathroom renovation but unfortunately were left disappointed with the poor flow they were receiving from the shower. Initially, the householder feared they would need their new bathroom took apart before even finding the problem.
Installer Feedback
Gary had been toying with the idea of purchasing an AquaScan for a little while, as he was struggling to justify the investment, but after biting the bullet and going ahead, he says “the investment has paid for itself already”.
With the AquaScan, Gary was able to carry out tests at multiple outlets to discover the exact issue. AquaScan comes with over 10 different connectors, including a mixer tap hose connector and a flexible hose with 3/4” male and 3/4” female connection making it easy to connect to different points.
Gary was able to test the water to discover at which point the problem occurred. He started at the shower hose, which AquaScan confirmed was giving a shocking 1 L/min, he then used it to test directly from the pipework which gave a reading of 22 L/min, showing Gary that the issue lay with the actual shower design and not the pipework. Without AquaScan, this job could have led to the homeowner’s new bathroom being ruined with the need to access the pipework. Instead, Gary was able to identify that the problem was not the incoming mains but the design of the shower.
He added a new shower bar valve and left their customer feeling very happy with a 11 L/min, which was again confirmed by AquaScan. Gary said that “without AquaScan, I couldn’t have tested accurately at numerous points and diagnosed the exact issue. The digital display is very clear to read and compared to a weir cup, is a great visual aid for customers to be able to see exactly what they do/don’t have. Investing in AquaScan meant that I saved a customer money and stress with a first-time fix”.
“The kit is absolutely insane, I would 100% recommend.”
